Paradoxographic mentalité and the sacred: thinking through (im)material collections in Pausanias' Periegesis Hellados

  • The Open University LIbrary, Seminar Room 4, Second Floor Milton Keynes, MK7 6AA UK (map)

Dr Jody Cundy from the University of Oxford will give a talk on "Paradoxographic mentalité and the sacred: thinking through (im)material collections in Pausanias' Periegesis Hellados."

The paper will explore the intersections between strategies for preserving and presenting ephemeral marvels/miracles in textual or monumental form, and the collective significance of votive dedications in a particular sanctuary.

The talk will begin at 1pm, and a sandwich/buffet lunch will be available from 12.30pm. If you have any special dietary requirements, or any questions about the event, please email the organiser Jessica Hughes (jessica.hughes@open.ac.uk).

The seminar will take place in Seminar Room 4 in the Open University Library. Come into the main glass door entrance, and turn left to find the lift and stairs to the first floor. There will be signs posted on the day.
